Who is MarsDust?
General Info

MarsDust Online is a quarterly web publication brought to you by Mysterian Media. It is our mission to bring to you in depth profiles and features from the worlds of science fiction, fantasy and horror entertainment, rock, hip-hop, electronic music and gothic culture. Why do we mix all that up in the same format? Basically we love dreamers and rebels. Other "lifestyles" publications may cover these things in their own way, but we at MarsDust Online think that they give top billing to the wrong stuff. Our goal is to get it right.

MarsDust Staffers and Contributers

Sandee Rager is a journalism student at Eastern Michigan University with a criminolgy minor. She is a regular contributer of music and fashion features for MarsDust Online as well as non-academic features for neurological and brain-injury related publications. She is an avid weight lifter and likes to read and dance at childrens' story hour for her local Borders Bookstore.

One of her long term goals is to establish a "hiddeen disabilities" scholarship for those who suffer from handicaps and disabilities that are not immediately visible, such as traumatic brain injury, xxxx and xxxx. Anyone interested in helping out with this should email her.

Steve Nagy started writing seriously in 1996 when he read Stephen King's Desperation -- which matched an idea he had years before but never finished writing. He's currently working on his second novel.Dennis Etchison bought Steve's story "The Hanged Man of Oz" for the upcoming anthology Bones. Etchison is co-editing the anthology with Ramsey Campbell and Jack Dann for publication by Tor and HarperCollins in the United States, Great Britain and Australia.Steve belongs to the online writing workshop the Sock Monkey Parade. He worked at several newspapers in the Midwest as a reporter and copy-editor after earning a degree in journalism from Kent State in 1987.

Jason Prentice Ahlquist is the publisher and founder of MarsDust Online. He has been a publishing consultant for the past seven years, travelling to over eighty newspapers and magazines to help them through turbulant periods of technological change. He has spoken at New York University and Eastern Michigan University about the future of technology in the modern newsroom. He is also a fine artist whose work has been seen on the Sci-Fi Channel website and Juxtapoz magazine among other places.

Aside from art, scifi and causing trouble, Jason also enjoys running, weightlifting, hiking and mountain biking. He has a profound respect for half pipe skateboarding and surfing, but is too much of a chicken to seriously attempt either sport. Unfortunately for him, his daughter Zoe is interested in both and he might just have to suck it up so he can enjoy those things with her.

In 1997 Jason was one of the original signers of the Extropic Art Manifesto. Other signers included Greg Bear, Gregory Benford and Linda Nagata. This document of artistic purpose was placed on board the Cassini Huygens spacecraft on its mission to Saturn as a representation of humanities hopes and aspirtations for the future. The text of document can be read here.
